Passionate about law for much of his life, Paul Newnum decided to pursue a career as an attorney after graduating with distinction from Indiana University. While there, he was a Hoosier Scholar and a Wendell L. Willkie Fellow in the Department of Political Science. Mr. Newnum went on to attend the IU School of Law and graduated in 1981.
Mr. Newnum became a member of the Florida Bar in 1983. He specializes in Family Law and has taken strides to further his career over the years. In 2001, Mr. Newnum became a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator and served as the Chair of the Orange County Bar Association’s Family Law Committee from 2005-2006. Today, he acts as a family mediator for the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida. In 2003, the Court Care Center of the Ninth Judicial Court asked Mr. Newnum to serve as the Parent Coordinator for families in transition, which he continues to do today.
Mr. Newnum is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including The Florida Bar’s Family Law Section and the Central Florida Family Law Inns of Court. Over the years, Mr. Newnum has been sought out by various associations such as the University of Central Florida, Valencia Community College, and the public schools of Orange County to share lectures. He graduated from the Orlando Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Orlando Program, served as President and was honored as “Toastmaster of the Year” by the Downtown Orlando Toastmasters Club, and has served as Chair of the Orange County Bar Association’s Entertainment Law Committee.
With a commitment to give back to the community, Mr. Newnum has also been involved in many civic, community, and charitable groups. Since 1991, he has co-hosted the internationally recognized blues music show, Smokestack Lightnin’. You can listen to the show by visiting their website at www.smokestacklightnin.com. The show airs every Saturday night from 8-11pm on 89.9 FM. Mr. Newnum has resided in the Orlando area since 1981 and currently lives with his family in Winter Park.
